The main Guajiru lagoon, at Praia da Barra, is saltwater and tidal: it is biggest at high tide, and at low tide it shrinks and gets shallower.

Sunset at the Duna do Pôr do Sol (Sunset Dune) is better at low tide, when the beach is wider. The village beach is kept for windsurfers, surfers and swimmers; the kite spot is by the dune, at the western edge of the village. The wind there is side-offshore and gusty, coming off the dunes. From low to mid tide, the water is shallow, with hardly any waves. On the downwind from Preá, the exit at Praia da Malhada can be dangerous above mid tide.

At high tide, the beach in front of the village gets very narrow, with barely enough room to lay out lines or launch a kite. The downwind to Jeri ends at the Duna do Pôr do Sol (Sunset Dune) or at Praia da Malhada, where the exit can be dangerous above mid tide.

In front of the kite schools, the river-mouth lagoon forms from mid to high tide. Lagoa Grande and Lagoa da Torta are freshwater and don't depend on the tide; the beach route to Jeri does.

Lagoa do Cauípe doesn't depend on the tide.
