These distinctions come from ICMBio's Santo Amaro visitor guide. At Betânia, a community stop can mean a meal or a rest break. If you want a particular activity with residents, ask what is actually offered and by whom.

For Emendadas, think through the whole sequence: vehicle → parking → walk over dunes → lagoons. Ask about the return walk too. Having a 4×4 in the proposal does not tell you how much time you will spend on foot.

Nearby alternatives to discuss

ICMBio places Andorinha near town, on the national and municipal park boundary, and describes Ponta Verde with parking beside lagoons. These are useful alternatives to raise if you want to limit walking. Check the exact route, sand, slopes and boarding needs before deciding whether either suits your group.

From Barreirinhas: Lagoa Azul or Lagoa Bonita?

Start by considering Bonita if a broad view of the dunes is your priority. Its staircase also makes the access worth discussing before you choose. Both circuits can include several lagoons.

The ICMBio Barreirinhas visitor guide describes these features. “Normally in the morning” is a typical format, not a guaranteed departure or an exclusive visiting window.

With one free slot, compare the actual walking and swimming time in the two proposals. With two, ask what the second circuit adds. Confirm a workable itinerary before arranging both on the same day.

From Atins: choose an area, then the stops

If you are staying in Atins, request a departure from the village. Check whether the proposal concentrates on lagoons or also includes beach, river and meal stops.

The first two areas and lagoon examples appear in ICMBio's 2026 visitor guide accreditation notice, Annex II. They help you recognize a proposal; they are not a promise that every listed lagoon will be visited.

Names you may see. Canto is a separate settlement from Atins. ICMBio's visitor page uses Canto dos Lençóis, while operational documents also use Canto de Atins.

The visitor page also describes the Rio Negro outing, with feasibility to be checked locally.

If you are arriving from Barreirinhas. Keep the journey to your accommodation separate from the excursion plan. For an overland transfer between Barreirinhas town and Atins, ICMBio's July 2026 circular specifies the road outside the park. A lagoon outing needs its own confirmed route and arrangements.

Fit the outing to the time you actually have

• An arrival day: give the operator your expected arrival details before considering an excursion. Do not assume you can join after checking in.
• One free excursion slot: choose the circuit from your current base that best matches your main interest.
• Several free slots: compare what each outing adds instead of filling the itinerary with names.
• A departure day: confirm the excursion endpoint and expected finish before committing to the next journey.

For the calendar, continue with when to visit Lençóis. For a particular lagoon on a particular date, ask for a recent local assessment rather than treating an old photograph as a forecast.

The questions worth sending together

Compare proposals for walking, transport, guide language, meals, group format and separately quoted items. Ask what happens if the planned lagoon stops change.

Before booking, check that the vehicle, driver and visitor guide have valid authorization. ICMBio's visitor guidance explains the badges and authorizations to request. Tourist ATVs and UTVs are prohibited within the park's dune-field perimeter; they are not an alternative way to reach those lagoons.
