A boat trip along Rio Preguiças

Choose this outing for a boat journey, riverside villages and the landscape between river and sea. A return trip suits a stay in Barreirinhas. Continuing to Atins appears in an advertised package; confirm that the sightseeing, luggage and onward arrival are included in the itinerary you book.

What each stop adds

The three place names help explain the experience, but they do not define every outing on the river. Open Lençóis describes Vassouras, Mandacaru and Caburé in its Caburé circuit. The itinerary from the company you are considering establishes which are proposed for your day.

Stop What distinguishes the place How to weigh it
Vassouras The Pequenos Lençóis landscape beside the river Look at the time allocated to enjoying the landscape, beyond simply getting ashore
Mandacaru The village with the Preguiças Lighthouse If the lighthouse matters to you, confirm access for the date of your trip
Caburé The strip of sand between river and sea The stop here and the next departure help determine the pace of your day

A lunch stop does not establish that the meal is included. Open Lençóis' cited offer, for example, lists lunch as a separate expense. When comparing proposals, distinguish time set aside to eat from what the price covers.

If one place is your main reason for choosing the outing, give its planned stop more weight than the total number of places listed. A brief visit and a pause that lets you enjoy the place meet different expectations.

Return to Barreirinhas

This is the most straightforward choice if you are keeping the same accommodation and want to set aside a day for the river. Compare the experience through its stops and the time devoted to each, without also arranging a change of base.

Visit Brasil, published by Embratur, presents the Vassouras, Mandacaru and Caburé circuit as an all-day outing starting and ending in Barreirinhas. That gives you a sense of the commitment; confirm the departure and return times for the trip you choose.

Make the outing the main event of the day. If you need onward transport afterward, compare its departure with the expected return before arranging the connection; the excursion's return estimate does not guarantee the connection.

Continue to Atins

Consider this when you want the sightseeing stops and have already decided to stay in Atins that night. Combining them can make the outing part of your change of base, but the plan must cover arrival with luggage as well as the stops.

One example is Desviantes' package including Atins: on one day, the itinerary starts in Barreirinhas, visits Vassouras, the lighthouse and Caburé, then continues to Atins. Its description says luggage accompanies passengers in the boat.

This is an advertised combination within a package. It does not confirm that the segment is available separately, on your dates or on the same terms through another company.

Caburé and Atins are separate steps. Rota Combo advertises a specific crossing between them, with service variants. “Ends in Caburé” and “includes arrival at your accommodation in Atins” therefore describe different arrangements.

If sightseeing stops are not your priority, organize the Barreirinhas–Atins transfer first. Use that guide to compare transport options; the choice here is whether you want to make sightseeing part of the day.

The river or the Lençóis lagoons?

A river outing can also show you dunes and lagoons: Embratur identifies that Pequenos Lençóis landscape at Vassouras. Choosing between the outings involves more than deciding between “river” and “sand.”

If your main reason for visiting is to spend time among dunes and lagoons, organize that priority first, then consider what the river adds. If you already have a lagoon day and want to see villages and the river landscape, Rio Preguiças adds a different focus. A stop at Vassouras is not automatically a substitute for a park lagoon circuit.

Compare lagoon tours from your starting base for that part of the trip.

Before you arrange the trip

  • Route and timing: proposed stops, lighthouse access, time at each place, boarding and expected finish.
  • Final destination: return to Barreirinhas or arrival in Atins, with the drop-off point and any journey to your accommodation.
  • Luggage and connections: if changing base, how your bags travel and who arranges each stage, including after an itinerary change.
  • Service: boat, group size, language of assistance, meals and activities charged separately.
