Unlike Barreirinhas (Lagoa Azul, Bonita), Atins has exclusive lagoons:

How to reach the lagoons:

On foot: Confirm the lagoon, starting point, walking time and current access requirements for the specific route.
Authorized 4x4: For circuits with vehicle access; check the walking sections after parking.

Park access: Tourist ATVs and UTVs are prohibited in the dune field inside the national park, as specified in ICMBio's 11 July 2026 circular. Check the authorized route and the walking involved; a calendar month does not tell you which lagoons are reachable on foot.

Advantage: Lagoons are far less crowded than those around Barreirinhas.

1. Lagoons on Foot

Atins and Santo Amaro are bases for walks among the dunes. Confirm the route and current ICMBio access requirements before setting out.

Walk: Ask for the distance, dune climbs and return route for the proposed lagoon.
Timing: Choose using the current lagoon and route conditions, rather than a fixed June cutoff.

2. Lagoon Tours by Authorized 4x4

3. Kitesurf

Sheltered water at the river mouth, ocean waves and seasonal outings to specific Lençóis lagoons offer different settings. The sheltered areas change with the tide.

Lagoon sessions: Outings depend on water levels and seasonal conditions. Confirm the authorised lagoon and activity format with the operator.

On unpaved sandy streets with no bank and internet that sometimes flickers, you'll find Mediterranean-Maranhense fusion, Neapolitan pizza baked in a wood-fired oven by Italians, Japanese cuisine with northeastern ingredients, craft beer brewed in the village, and tasting menus that change daily based on what the chef finds at the market. Bring cash: there's no bank in the village, and Pix may fail when the internet drops. Cards work at most restaurants, but not all.
